Youth Crisis Intervention Center

Mission Statement:
The mission of the Youth Crisis Intervention Center is to provide a coordinated, multi-agency setting which supports activities that contribute to the safety and well-being of youth involved with the juvenile justice system through a systems approach of early intervention, thorough assessments, and timely access to appropriate services.

  • 910 N. Mission Drive
    Winnebago, NE 68071

  • Office Hours: 8:00a.m. - 4:30p.m.

Program Design:
The Youth Crisis Intervention Center (YCIC) provides a centralized, safe, and short-term placement for youth.  Juveniles picked up by Law Enforcement will be brought to Centralized Intake for initial intake, screening, and booking. An initial assessment will be performed so that appropriate intervention services and care can be initiated or until a transfer to detention or other program can be facilitated.  The focus of YCIC services is to provide for timely crisis interventions for court-involved youth through comprehensive assessment/evaluation, treatment referral, and development of Individual Service Plans (ISP). A Team Case Management approach is being implemented.  The facility will have trained staff who can assess and respond to the needs of the youth while in custody at the facility.  Supervision occurs through face-to-face contact with staff.

Centralized Intake Unit

  • Intake Screenings and Interview
  • Hours of operation: 24/7 availability (may not be staffed at all hours; but staff will be on call to provide intake, as needed)

 Hold Over Unit

  • Short-term residential housing for youth requires temporary care during intake processing, awaiting release to parent/guardian, or transport to secure detention or other alternative placement.
  • It is NOT meant to be a detention placement.
Drum-Assisted Rehabilition Therapy of Native Americans

With the increasing number of treatment recommendations from the Youth Crisis Intervention Center (YCIC) Assessment Unit, we are expanding our services to include outpatient treatment program services. The YCIC currently provides lower-level treatment services such as Alcohol & Other Drug (AOD) classes and individual therapy with a licensed therapist. However, when youth require a higher level of care, they often must be sent off-reservation for residential inpatient treatment.

To address this gap, we are introducing Drum-Assisted Rehabilitation Therapy for Native Americans (DARNTA) program, which will enhance the treatment options available at YCIC by providing a midlevel outpatient treatment program. This program is expected to reduce inpatient referrals and help keep youth connected to their culture and community while receiving necessary support services.

DARTNA will not only provide a cultural-based approach to recover but will also serve as a cultural preservation tool for the Winnebago Ho-Chunk Community. Throughout the program, youth will also explore topics related to addiction, recovery, cultural identity, and gender roles within drum culture.
