Summer Youth Employment

our goal:

The goal of SYEP is for our youth to develop necessary skills and work ethic while receiving on-the-job training within the Winnebago Tribe of NE. Through positive interactions they learn job duties and responsibilities in each position they are placed within the tribe.  Each youth is paid for the hours worked.  The extra workforce for Programs during the summer months is needed and appreciated.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM?

  • Youth High School students between the ages of 14-19 years old (up to 21 years for Disability/IEP, will be verified)
  • Enrolled in school on a full-time basis
  • 2026 High School graduates may apply
  • Enrolled with the Winnebago Tribe of NE or any Federally Recognized Tribe
  • Must reside on the Winnebago Reservation
  • Maintain a 2.5 GPA for the current academic school year (if an IEP, must provide proof)

**Youth age 14-15 are not allowed to operate mechanized equipment and youth age 16-18 may operate mechanized equipment under adult supervision.

2026 SYEP online application is open. All required documents must be required no later than the deadline of Friday, May 1, 2026 at the Higher Education office, 916 N. Mission Drive, Winnebago, NE.

The SYEP job fair will be held on Friday, April 10th (9am-12pm), at the Winnebago Public School practice gym. Worksite program supervisors are provided the opportunity to conduct their own interviews and select a youth worker(s).

Mandatory SYEP orientation and workshops will be held on May 26 and May 27, 2026, for youth hired. Workshops will focus on leadership, soft skills, culture, and employment benefits.

All applicants must turn in required documents to the Higher Education office:

  • School transcript: Attendance/Grades
  • Proof of Tribal Enrollment or Tribal I.D. (new applicant)
  • Copy of Social Security card or Birth Certificate (new applicant)
  • Resumé
  • Release of Information Form
  • Drug & Alcohol consent form
  • Photo/Video Consent and Release form
